Vaginal Rejuvenation

Women who have had children often experience vaginal relaxation. In some cases, this condition can lead to prolapse. Although not dangerous, severe vaginal relaxation or prolapse can lead to some unpleasant symptoms. Some women experience painful intercourse, for example, while others feel uncomfortable about the appearance of their vagina. Some women experience pressure in the area and many women with this condition report that they enjoy sex less because they experience less sexual pleasure.

Vaginal rejuvenation procedures can help tighten the vaginal area and resolve any problems associated with vaginal relaxation. This procedure allows women to feel more comfortable about their bodies, even in the most intimate situations. Even more importantly, vaginal rejuvenation procedures can help women recapture sexual sensations and gratification. It can significantly improve a woman’s sex life.

As with all cosmetic procedures, vaginal rejuvenation requires research and careful thought. Good surgeons will carefully screen patients to ensure that they are physically and mentally ready for the procedure. Since the procedure affects such a sensitive and personal part of the body, women considering vaginal rejuvenation will want to find a surgeon they can really trust.

Many vaginal rejuvenation procedures are completed on an outpatient basis. Usually, the patient will be asked to abstain from drinking and smoking in the weeks leading up to the procedure. This will speed recovery time, reduce the risk of complications, and reduce the amount of blood loss that may occur during the procedure. Patients will need to abstain from intercourse for a day before surgery and will need to avoid food and drink about ten hours before the procedure to prepare the body for surgery.

What actually occurs during the procedure will depend on the work you and your surgeon have agreed to. Most procedures, however, involve the surgeon making incisions in the vaginal area and then shortening or tightening any loose muscles in the genital area. If required, the surgeon can also reduce the vaginal lining to decrease the size of the vaginal opening. Any excess skin is removed and the incisions are closed.

Recovery begins almost immediately. Most patients leave the hospital or clinic within a few hours of surgery and are able to return to work in a few days or a week. Heavy lifting, tampon use, and intercourse needs to be avoided for up to six weeks to allow the area to heal. Some women report tenderness, swelling, or bruising in the genital area after vaginal rejuvenation surgery, but these side effects usually abate within a few days.
