Body Lift

There are many reasons why tissue may hang loose on the body. Some skin conditions, pregnancy, aging, and weight loss, for example, can all lead to folds of excess tissue on the body. This can make a patient self-conscious. In some cases, flaps of skin can be cumbersome, and may affect the way clothes fit. In some cases, this excess skin can affect movement and everyday activities, such was walking, bending over, and running. Excess folds of skin can also create hygiene problems in extreme cases, since larger folds can store excess moisture and can create challenges with bathing.

A body lift can address this issue and can reduce the loose folds on one area or multiple areas of the body. A body lift can include an upper body lift, a tummy tuck, a breast lift, and a lower body lift, depending on the needs of the patient. Usually, the surgeon will need to remove excess tissue, tighten the skin in an area, and so some sculpting work for best results.

A lower body lift, for example, may include a butt lift, thigh lift, and work on the stomach area as well. During a lower body lift, the excess tissue, skin and fat will be removed from the area and the surgeon will usually tighten the muscle wall of the stomach. Additionally, the surgeon may need to address the Superficial Fascia Suspension System (SFS), which is a network of connective tissues which holds tissues in place. To give the patient a more youthful appearance, the surgeon may need to re-suspend the SFS. Additionally, if there is excess fatty tissue in the area, the surgeon may recommend liposuction along with the body lift.

It is important to note that body lift surgery is not meant to reduce your weight. If you want to lose weight or fat, you might want to speak with your surgeon about other treatments available. If, however, you are in good shape but have excess flaps of tissue on your body, a body lift can help you regain a sleeker, healthier, and more youthful appearance.

You may be a good candidate for a body lift if you are in good health, are a non-smoker, and don’t have medical complications. Body lift surgery may be right for you if you have loose tissue but not excess fat on your body. If you have trouble healing or controlling bruising or bleeding, you should discuss this with your surgeon before considering body lift surgery.
